'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' PH release date set for Apr 19

Universal Pictures PH has announced that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to release in Philippine cinemas on April 19, 2023.

Global entertainment brands Nintendo and Illumination join forces for the first time to create "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," a new cinematic adventure starring the most prominent plumber in popular culture over the past four decades.

Based on the universe of Nintendo's Super Mario video games, this action-packed comedy film transports audiences to an entirely new, vibrant universe.

The story of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" goes like this. While working underground to repair a water main in Brooklyn, plumbers Mario and Luigi are transported down a mysterious pipe and into a fantastical new world.

When the brothers are separated, however, Mario sets out on an epic journey to find Luigi. Mario discovers his own strength with the help of a Toad from the Mushroom Kingdom and training from Princess Peach, the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Some A-list actors provided the voices of the film's characters. Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Plus, a special voice appearance by Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario and Luigi for more than three decades in Super Mario games.

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the Super Mario games and producer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, explains that the Super Mario universe resonates with so many people around the world because it has continued to develop since its inception.

To recall, during The Game Awards 2022, a world premiere trailer of the film was shown, which was presented by Keegan-Michael Key, who voiced the character Toad.
